Detailed plans and PFTE for the northern forest of Ravenna

Objectives and scope of the assignment

We have developed detailed plans and technical-economic feasibility studies dedicated to accessibility, parking and traffic in the towns of the northern suburbs of Ravenna. The assignment involved Piangipane, Mezzano, Sant’Alberto, Torri, Savarna, Conventello, Grattacoppa, and Mandriole. Furthermore, the main objective was to improve local mobility through targeted interventions. Consequently, the project aims to ensure greater road safety, improved traffic flow and more rational management of parking spaces.

Context analysis and methodology

The activities included an in-depth analysis of the infrastructure framework and traffic flows. In addition, direct surveys and assessments were carried out on mobility demand and residents’ needs. Subsequently, the collected data were integrated with advanced modelling tools. This approach has therefore made it possible to realistically represent the state of accessibility and accurately identify critical points in populated areas.

Design solutions and priorities for action

Design solutions have been defined for traffic flow, parking and cycle/pedestrian paths. The priorities were established in line with municipal strategies and available ministerial funding. Furthermore, the design approach included an assessment of the expected costs and benefits and an analysis of service levels. Consequently, the proposed measures improve safety, universal accessibility and urban quality.

Results and implications for local planning

The drafting of detailed plans and PFTE (Technical Urban Planning Frameworks) has provided the Municipality of Ravenna with a useful operational tool for municipal planning. Furthermore, the work has contributed to the creation of a safer, more integrated and sustainable mobility network. Finally, the activity strengthened local planning capacity and laid the foundations for future urban and territorial redevelopment projects in the Ravenna area.
