Design of the Drive Belt system for the national digital logistics chain
Scope of the intervention
We have developed technical support activities for the design of the Drive Belt system, a strategic component of the national digital logistics chain within the National Logistics Platform. The intervention was part of the policies of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. Furthermore, the main objective was to integrate information sources, improve the governance of goods flows and enhance the overall efficiency of the Italian logistics system. Consequently, the project has helped to strengthen the digitisation of the sector.
Requirements, operational scenarios and system architecture
The activities involved defining the functional and non-functional requirements of the system. Subsequently, the configuration of the operational scenarios was structured and the monitoring modules and Strategic Dashboard were designed. Furthermore, we supported the construction of conceptual architecture based on Big Data, data lakes and interoperability systems. This approach has therefore enabled the collection, standardisation and enhancement of data from public bodies and private operators.
Logistics KPIs and data acquisition processes
Our contribution included identifying key performance indicators for logistics, selecting over 80 priority indicators. The indicators have been organised to measure the capacity, accessibility, reliability, cost and sustainability of services. At the same time, we designed the data acquisition and enrichment processes, defining the interfaces with core systems such as port PCS, the Freight Village System, the railway PIC and the PMIS. Furthermore, interoperable flows with national and European platforms have been defined.
Predictive analytics, decision-making scenarios and regulatory compliance
The intervention led to the development of predictive analysis tools useful for simulating the supply and demand of logistics services. Thanks to these tools, variations in flows have been assessed and operational impacts relevant to strategic planning have been identified. Furthermore, we have ensured that the system complies with national and European regulations on interoperability, privacy, and data traceability. As a result, the designed solution is scalable, resilient and fully compatible with the requirements of Italian logistics.
