Net Zero Mobility – Rome Airports
Context and objectives
We supported Aeroporti di Roma in developing the Net Zero strategy set out in the Net 0 Scope 3 – Mobility Roadmap Plan, with the aim of reducing indirect emissions and improving accessibility to Fiumicino airport. The intervention is part of ESG policies and defines evolutionary scenarios and operational actions geared towards decarbonisation objectives.
Activities carried out
To begin the work, we collected and organised a large set of data from diverse sources. These include Vodafone Analytics, traffic surveys and Origin/Destination surveys. Thanks to this information, we have reconstructed accessibility to the two airports, identifying strengths and weaknesses. We have also defined the reference carbon footprint for Scope 3.
Successivamente abbiamo elaborato scenari previsionali al 2050, con orizzonti intermedi al 2030 e 2035. In each scenario, we simulated the evolution of mobility demand and the effect of decarbonisation measures. The strategies include increasing the use of public transport, promoting electric mobility, carpooling and new ways of accessing airports.
Indicators and tools
To make the process more comprehensive, we have associated specific KPIs with each scenario and an economic-financial assessment that distinguishes between operating costs and investment costs. We have also designed a monitoring system to verify the effectiveness of the measures over time and ensure the flexibility of the strategies.
Results and impacts
The plan incorporates interactive dashboards, periodic reports and continuous updating procedures. Aeroporti di Roma can thus count on a reliable and replicable tool capable of supporting the path towards Net Zero targets and strengthening the airport’s role in the European airport landscape.
