Ostia – Fiumicino Corridor: Project Review and Mobility Studies

Scope of the intervention

We participated in Project Review services for the Ostia – Fiumicino Corridor. This is a strategic project that integrates rapid mass transport, cycle and pedestrian mobility, and urban redevelopment. The project improves the connection between the Ostia seafront, Isola Sacra and the new commercial port of Fiumicino. It also introduces solutions aimed at sustainability, accessibility and quality of public space.

Project update and analysis of alternatives

Activities include updating the Preliminary Design and drafting the Technical-Economic Feasibility Study. The Feasibility Document for Design Alternatives has also been developed. This phase allows you to compare the different solutions and also makes the entire decision-making process transparent. The work is fully consistent with the MIMS Guidelines approved by the Higher Council of Public Works.

Mobility studies and integrated assessments

The project combines technical and design review with mobility studies and analysis of current demand. We also assessed possible future scenarios. In addition, transport and environmental assessments were carried out, together with economic and financial plans to support the design choices. This activity considers compatibility with urban development and the needs of the community. Consequently, the project integrates socio-economic benefits and sustainability criteria.

Results and funding support

The project provides solid support for the application for funding from the National Fund for Rapid Mass Transport. The analyses make it possible to define a multimodal corridor capable of strengthening mobility between Ostia and Fiumicino. They also improve accessibility to the port and airport system. Finally, they contribute to promoting a new urban quality in the Roman area, thanks to an integrated and long-term approach.
