Plan for the elimination of architectural barriers Terracina

Context and objectives

The Municipality of Terracina has commissioned us to draft the Plan for the Elimination of Architectural Barriers, in accordance with Presidential Decree 503/1996 and the Lazio Region 2020 Guidelines. The objective was to improve accessibility to public buildings, urban spaces and key services. Furthermore, the plan adopts an inclusive approach based on the principles of design for all and the prevention of new barriers.

Activities carried out

We have defined the areas of intervention and identified the most relevant buildings and urban spaces. We then mapped the architectural barriers and developed a range of design solutions. At the same time, we have launched a participatory process involving citizens and associations, which is useful for gathering reports and priorities. In addition, we have drawn up a cost estimate for the measures, broken down into stages and integrated into municipal plans.

Communication and participation

The process involved the constant participation of citizens. Information materials and dedicated graphic tools have been produced to facilitate public communication and broaden participation. This has enabled more accurate data to be collected and has increased the transparency of the work.

Indicators and tools

The methodology adopted transformed the needs expressed by citizens into clear project guidelines. Furthermore, it has enabled improvements in local governance and promoted a more accessible urban vision. The system includes indicators, evaluation criteria and monitoring procedures.

Results and impacts

The plan was designed as a dynamic and updatable tool. It covers a ten-year period and provides for annual updates based on available resources. In this way, the municipality can plan concrete and progressive interventions. The PEBA therefore provides a solid technical framework aimed at making Terracina more accessible, safer and more usable for everyone.
