PUMS Metropolitan City of Rome Capital
General overview
We were commissioned to draft the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan and related sector plans for the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital. The activity includes the Public Transport Plan, the Bicycle Plan, the Mobility Plan for People with Disabilities, and the Sustainable Logistics and Goods Plan. Furthermore, the project involves the creation of a comprehensive knowledge base that will be useful for analysing demand, supply and infrastructure issues.
Methodological approach
During the course of the work, a data-driven approach was adopted based on CATI surveys, Floating Car Data, mobile phone data and advanced modelling. Thanks to this integration, it has been possible to reconstruct an updated mobility demand. The strategy focuses not only on new infrastructure, but also on improving the efficiency of existing assets, so as to maximise the investments already planned.
Participation and communication
The project places great emphasis on participatory processes. Communication tools such as social media pages, newsletters and an official website have been activated. In addition, more than thirty-eight events were organised, including Open Days, seminars and round-table discussions. In this way, stakeholders and citizens can actively contribute to the choices made in the Plan.
Strategic consistency and results
The entire process is consistent with national and European strategies. The proposed solutions aim to reduce congestion, improve accessibility, promote cycling and ensure universal accessibility. Furthermore, the link between Rome and its metropolitan area is strengthened. The Sustainable Mobility Plan was unanimously approved by the Metropolitan Council, confirming the technical soundness of the work carried out.
